An Intel Reader is a very mobile device handheld device that images printed text and reads it aloud to the user. The Intel Reader is designed with one primary purpose: to increase the independence of anyone who struggles to read standard print including those with low vision, blindness or learning difficulties such as dyslexia. The Intel Reader incorporates a special camera optimized for capturing print and a state-of-the-art Intel Atom processor to quickly and easily convert printed text to digital text (compliant with the DAISY/NISO Standard) and then read it aloud to the user. An optional Portable Capture Station is ideal for capturing large volumes of text (for example a chapter or entire book) for reading later. The Intel Reader truly is an amazing device that can help to increase a user’s independence, enjoyment, confidence and improve productivity at home, school and work.

During playback, the text is highlighted as it is read aloud (also known as dual mode) and users can even have the Reader pause and spell out highlighted words.

Intel Reader Content and Playback Choices

The Intel® Reader can playback a variety of file formats. Its ability to import, and export files means more storage options, giving the user a variety of ways to access content. The Intel® Reader will play most content, including MP3, DAISY* books and even text moved from a computer, as well as MP3 or WAV music files. Users can also generate their own audio versions of printed materials, such as MP3s, that can be played on most MP3 players or computers. The reader really helped me get through books. I have very poor eyesight and sometimes finishing books can be a strain on my eyesight, and the Intel Reader helped me finish all the books I love to read. (Posted on 7/23/13)

    2. Very Helpful for My Father Review by Rich L.

My Dad is a veteran who is now legally blind. He has some vision, but reading is not an option. It's important to him to live as independently as possible. This device allows him to "read" the paper, books, his mail, and anything else such as food product labels. He doesn't want to have to ask for help every time he wants to read something, so this has been a huge improvement to his quality of life. Thank you for selling such a great product. We've had the same one for years and never any problems with it. It is well-built and easy to use. (Posted on 7/23/13)
