CTL Chromebooks Added to Google's Chromebook Self-Repair Program

Google's Chromebook self-repair program empowers schools to build an in-school CTE repair program for select Chromebook models. Manufacturer supported self-repair programs can give students valuable real-world technical certifications and experience and can lead to cost savings and faster repair turn around for IT departments.

“CTL has been about the repairability, self-service, parts availability, and circularity of electronics for decades,” noted CTL CEO Erik Stromquist. “We are excited to be part of the Google self-repair program and continue to look for new ways to reduce our environmental impact.”

CTL is committed to three tenets of self repair:

  • Making spare parts easily available to our customers
  • Designing Chromebooks that are easily repairable
  • Providing training programs and materials to enable Chromebook self repair

CTL’s self-repair overview and full repair guide can be found on Google’s website here.

Google’s Chromebook self-repair program is designed to help IT reduce costs and workload while creating a tailor made CTE opportunity to help students develop valuable transferable skills in customer service, IT helpdesk, and IT break-fix repair.

Google’s Chromebook repair program has 3 pillars:

  1. Sustainability: keep devices in service longer
  2. Practical Skills: teach practical tech skills
  3. Learning Continuity: improve device repair turnaround time to reduce learning disruptions
