CTL Celebrates 30 Years of Business

Thirty years ago, CTL CEO David Kim had the vision to provide computers and servers to the education, local and federal government sectors. He founded CTL Incorporated in Oregon in 1989 and our company got its start by building and selling custom-configured Desktop PCs. Today, thirty years later, we offer ruggedized Chromebooks for education and enterprise, Google Jamboard and Logitech HMH Kit for distance learning and remote collaboration, Monitors, 2-in-1s, NUCs, Laptops, and PCs. We even launched our first Chromebook and Chromebox. A lot of really good things have happened in the last three decades of our business, and we want to take a moment to recognize them and say thank you to all who have joined us on this journey.

First off, we wouldn't be where we are today without our partners. Microsoft has been a partner for 17 years, which is more than half the life of our company, and for six years, we've been working as a Premier Partner to Google. We've also had the opportunity to partner with Amazon, Intel, and Logitech, and work with resellers Asus, Ingram Micro, Kingston, Lenovo, Luxor, and Synn. CTL is proud to be both a Microsoft OEM and Intel Technology Provider at the Platinum level.

CTL has won a number of Public Sector computer hardware contracts over the years, giving us a wealth of experience and opportunity. For example, in 2016, we were awarded a contract with the State of Nevada Department of Education Nevada Ready 21 Program (NR21 Program) to outfit middle school classrooms with 1:1 CTL Chromebook solutions. Our company success and growth has led us to opening offices and warehouses outside of Oregon in five different locations. In 1992, we opened an office in Seoul, Korea, and in 2015, we launched a European hub in Vigo, Spain. We also have a national and international presence through the wide range of industry trade shows we attend such as SXSW in Austin, Texas, ISE in Amsterdam, and BETT in London.

Yet, maintaining a local business is important to us; CTL’s assembly, sales, and support teams are all located in the United States, and our headquarters are right here in Portland, Oregon. To give back to our local Oregon community, we've participated in the Hood to Coast relay with All Hands Raised, the K103 Honor Roll Program, and in 2019, we were able to donate 25 monitors to Hack for a Cause, the state's largest hackathon event.

Over these last 30 years, our hard work has not gone unnoticed. We've received recognition from tech publications CNet and PC Magazine for our durable line of ruggedized Chromebooks for Education. In recent years, we've been named to the Inc 5000 (2017), CRN Fast Growth 150 (2017-2018), CRN Solution Provider 500 (2017-2018), and Portland Business Journal’s Fastest-Growing Private 100 Companies (2017-2019).

To celebrate CTL's 30th anniversary, threw an Open House BBQ for all of our local customers, employees, and partners. Thanks for being a part of this company's story; we hope you can celebrate these accomplishments with us!
