CTL is excited to include Intel’s Next Unit of Computing (NUC), a 4.59’’ x 4.41’’ x 1.55’’ Ultra Compact Form Factor desktop PC, to their product lineup. These uber-small PCs are a great solution for digital signage, kiosks, home theater systems, or your day-to-day tasks. If you’re questioning how high powered something this small could be, you might be surprised to find out that it has an Intel Core i-3 Processor, 4GB RAM, and a 90GB MSATA Hard Drive.
The NUC’s HD Graphics 4000 GPU is plenty powerful for delivering HD video for movies, photos and presentations. CTL is offering the NUC in three versions:
- CTL’s NUC DC3217BY comes with the Intel Core i3 processor, Windows 7 Home Premium, HDMI/Thunderbolt and 3 USB 2.0 ports. Sells for $793.
- CTL’s NUC DC3217IYE has the same processor, OS, and USB ports, however, it also includes gigabyte LAN and Dual HDMI ports. Sells for $755
- The NUC DCCP847DYE has the same specs as the DC3217IYE, but with the Intel Celeron Processor. Sells for $606
So which NUC to go with? It will depend on your uses. The NUC DC3217BY is capable of driving a 2560×1440 panel from its Thunderbolt port, which might be the better model if you’re looking to drive a large 30-inch screen, or higher-res 27-inch screen. However, if you want dual monitor support, the NUC DC3217IYE with dual HDMI ports may be the way to go, since most monitors have HDMI, but not many have Thunderbolt ports yet. If you just need a reliable PC for running programs such as Microsoft Office, then the NUC DCP847DYE with Celeron Processor is an appealing option.
Whichever NUC you go with is going to look great in your office or at home. Or, it can be hidden all together by VESA mounting to the back of your monitor. The connectors for external peripheral devices are conveniently placed on the side panels. It’s ready for wireless internet connectivity so you can start streaming right out of the box.
