Introduction to Google Workspace

Recently, Google announced that Google G Suite will now be called Google Workspace, a total rebrand of Google’s cloud based productivity tools, and that Workspace will offer even more capabilities and opportunities for collaboration. While G Suite had a variety of valuable communication tools available, Google Workspace transforms the platform to even better integrate users into the Workspace experience, allowing them to be more productive and connected than ever. Here is an overview of what you can expect from the transition of G Suite to Google Workspace and the tools that will increase productivity and collaboration. 

Updated user experience

While G Suite’s tools such as Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Chat, and Meet, have enabled all of us to better collaborate and be more productive, it can be time consuming to switch tools when managing multiple tasks. Google Workspace now has the ability to combine the core tools to collaborate more efficiently and effectively save some time to focus on the tasks that really matter.

Users can look forward to being able to collaborate more easily on Google documents with guests in a Google Chat room. Sharing and revising content within a group chat has never been easier. Short on time? Previewing a linked file without having to view it in another tab will now be enabled in Google Docs, Sheets and Slides so users can get through their workflow more easily. Need to loop someone in? Just @mention the individual and a smart chip will show that person’s contact details with options to reach out via email, chat or video.

Picture-in-picture video conferencing

With distance learning and working from home on the rise, many of us spend our  day in video conferencing calls and working in Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides. Now you can do it all without having to toggle between tabs! Picture-in-picture video conferencing will be rolled out so groups can easily see one another while working on documents. This is a great tool for presentations as the presenter now has the ability to gauge the audience along with simultaneously sharing content. 

Is it Google Workspace, Google Work Space, Google Workplace, or Google Work Place?

Some articles about Google Workspace have incorrectly referred to the re-brand as Google Work Space. Others have called it Google Workplace or even Google Work Place. We want to clarify that the correct way to refer to the re-branded version of G-Suite, is “Google Workspace”.

When G Suite was created it was meant to promote its apps individually rather than in an integrated manner - Google Workspace, on the other hand, is united on all fronts and made to work together and best serve your digital needs. With all apps working in unison, users can easily stay connected and productive from the comfort of anywhere.
