Dr. Sanjay Gupta tells the story of Ben Foss, the creator of the Intel Reader. Ben was diagnosed with Dyslexia as a child and struggled with keeping up with classwork through High School. Ben had to either spend a great deal of time reading the text himself or to rely on having others read printed material to him.
Ben went on to graduate school at Stanford University and had to rely on pre-recorded content or had to wait for school resources to scan printed text and then run text to speech conversions. Ben eventually became a technologist at Intel and had the opportunity to develop the Intel Reader, a device that converts printed text to digital and then reads it aloud. This is the device that Ben wishes he would have had to help him get through school.
Note: The Intel Reader is no longer available, however, CTL does have a wide selection of Chromebook Tablets that can be great assistive technology learning tools.
