As a rapid shift to distance learning occurred in schools with little to no preparation, it is essential that educators have professional development resources in order to properly adjust to the transitions of the virtual classroom. With CTL’s affordable Chromebooks in combination with Google G Suite features, accessing professional development tools has never been easier. Here’s a quick guide to the resources available to help educators gear up for the next school year in a distance learning environment.
Professional development webinars
Educators that are not so tech-savvy may have a harder time adjusting to distance learning, but it’s never too late to learn from the right resources. There are tons of webinars that break down specific tools to assist in executing an educator’s curriculum. It is important that teachers constantly go through professional development courses to refine their teaching methods and ensure the best approach to student learning.
The following webinars will get educators on the right track to learning what is expected of them during distance learning in schools:
Comprehensive guides
Sometimes educators prefer different approaches to learning, just like students do. If webinars are not so much your pace, here is a list of comprehensive guides and helpful articles as alternatives:
If educators want to go a step further and organize workshops amongst colleagues, we suggest doing so and using Google G Suite to stay connected! Educators can collaborate seamlessly with Google G Suite tools like Meet and be able to access all resources from the cloud-based Google Drive. Try getting together with your colleagues and try the following:
- Plan next year’s curriculum together to implement project-based learning segments. Doing this together could help teachers provide projects for students that have topics relating to one another and are relevant to real-life situations.
- Create a Google doc or sheet where you and colleagues can share your tips and tricks to teacher success. What you might think is common sense might be a revelation to another educator so sharing is caring!
- Create a weekly meet time to chat with your colleagues about their mental health. It is important that we all check in with one another periodically and practice patience with not just each other but ourselves as well.
The transition to distance learning is not something to be mastered overnight, but rather a continual process of growth while considering the student’s learning needs. Many are not as fortunate to have easy access to the resources most of us do, so it is important to acknowledge this and as an educator to implement a plan that includes all students no matter their situation. Providing as many resources as possible allows students to be able to access this information on their own time which could be crucial for someone that is limited in technology devices in their home.
Education Chromebooks and affordable tablets can be purchased at CTL.net with discounts for education customers.
